From Noam to Butters

Before a month or two ago, my TV time consisted of CBCnewsworld.......and that’s it. Now, that is still the best channel out there for information and facts but, I have learned that there is more to life than the problems in the middle East, George Bush, Iraq, starvation ..etc. I’ve had my fill for now, and in all honesty, I had a LARGE fill of it all (Jackie can attest that that, eh?). It’s a very depressing and heavy thing to study.

School is busy busy these days, so when I come home I want to relax and laugh. My new TV addiction is South Park. I love it. I used to think that it was stupid, and childish, but now I get it. I watch 1 hour of it every weeknight, and love every second. Actually, since I only watch an hour of TV a day, that’s all I watch now. My mom even likes it. I even have a favourite secondary character. For all those who don’t know, his name is Butters, and he is the best.

It’s funny how things change in your life, and how you change. When I was young (like in elementary school) I went through a conservative stage in my views, and enjoyed every minute of the radio show “Dr Laura.” She used to say things like gay couples shouldn’t raise kids, and I agreed with that point of view. Crazy considering that I wanted to have kids some day too.

Most recently though, I would have called you out for watching stupid, time wasting shows like South Park. “How can you watch that when there are wars and famines going on? The US government is tricking everyone, we need to do something!”

What’s changed? It’s hard to live on the outside of life, and it’s pretty lonely. It’s also not very rewarding at all, and nothing can really be accomplished. Watching the news will not solve the wars in the middle east, that’s up to the people in the middle east to solve.

That doesn’t mean that I don’t care about world issues and politics. It just means that I also care about business, commercialism, and South Park.

So, although I’ve traded in Noam Chomsky for Butters, it doesn’t mean that I won’t call you out for not knowing who the Prime Minister is (yes, I’m looking at you 9inch). Just make sure you know who Butters is as well.
Peace.
